Kinds Of Gutters
In addition to the material used, gutters can be made in different sizes, styles, and shapes. Metal and vinyl are the two most common materials used in all kind of gutters, but a variety of other materials can also be used. Gutter Medics can help you with gutter installment, gutter repair, gutter cleaning, etc. It is one of the leading gutter installment, repair and cleaning in the Chicagoland / West Suburban areas. We offers different kinds of gutters!
Wood
These wood gutter materials were made by shaping wood after the 19th century, but today they are very rare, except for some restorations.
Steel
It is a very strong material that can easily bear the load of ladders or fallen branches. Rust often forms on these rain gutters and they have to be painted often. Standing water rusts galvanized gutters because they are coated in zinc, which prevents rusting.
This kind of gutters is a type of steel is plated with a layer of zinc and aluminum, indicating its high resistance to corrosion. Steel with a zinc coating lasts more than ten times as long as galvanized steel. It is extremely expensive to buy stainless-steel gutters since they are durable and non-corrosive.
Aluminum
It is widely used because of its corrosion-resistant, lightweight and workability properties, as well as its low cost. Aluminum gutters are less durable than copper gutters and they also do not rust. Copper gutters are a bit stronger than aluminum but do not last as long. They are resistant to mildew, making maintenance easy. Traditionally, copper is used to restore more traditional homes.
A sealant coating can keep copper gutters from oxidizing and turning green over time, enabling them to retain their golden color and shine. Zinc gutters contain 99.5% zinc and a small percentage of titanium and copper in their composition. Their protective layer resists weathering and corrosion, so they don’t require painting. Gutter systems made of this material are very expensive and have almost twice the lifespan of aluminum.
Vinyl
Is relatively easy to install, but ladders can damage it, and UV rays can cause it to deteriorate. It is not corrosive, flexible, colorfast, and easy to repair quality vinyl gutters. Aluminum is less likely to be dented than these materials. This is the most common used materials in all kinds of gutters.
Paint is another option to give them more of a variety. They are not recommended for arid and hot regions due to the likelihood of them warping, bowing, cracking and breaking apart.
Gutter Styles and Shapes
Various styles and shapes are available for gutters. Profiles are also known as gutter profiles. The most common types are:
K Style Gutters
The most popular gutter style is the 5 inch K style gutter since it appears that they have a decorative crown molding. This is just a way to classify the data and they don’t have a K shape. Also called Ogee gutters, these gutters have a curved design.
Fascia Gutters
Are installed over roof rafter tails where there are no fascia boards. They serve as fascia boards as well as a means of covering the rafter tails.
Half Round Gutters
Half round gutters have the open side facing the roof. In comparison to a K-5 gutter, half round gutters are about half as deep. Depending on the level of debris or the presence of variations in the level, they can overflow. A gutter hanger is provided below them to secure them.
Integral Gutter
During the early 20th century, these gutters were popular among homeowners and were usually attached to rafters as well as the fascia on sloped roofs. A gutter with this type of design would leak and damage the framing.
Box Gutters
Box gutters are still found on some older homes, stores, and factories. Rather than being built into the overhang, a box gutter was constructed into the bottom of the roof. These are used in some commercial applications.

Gutter Protection Systems: Types and Utilization
Leaf Screens or Mesh
Roof Protection Systems are both made of metal and consist of a thin mesh that allows only water to seep through. Besides fitting inside the gutter, the metal covering also fits over the top. As a strainer, the mesh prevents leaves and debris from entering the gutter.
The metal gutters are thereby equipped with this mechanism, which allows water to flow freely through them and out of the downspouts. The debris can block the mesh completely over time as leaves accumulate on the mesh. Maintaining the effectiveness of the gutter protection system requires periodic cleaning of debris.
A Solid Cover With Slots On Each Side
Works as a gutter protection system based on water adhesion. Contrary to a mesh system with the entrance to the water on the top, this system appears to have slots or small openings along the vertical sides or the bottom of the gutter cover. Slots are strategically located to prevent debris from clogging them.
The edges or bottom of covers are normally not coated with debris. It is believed that surface tension ensures water adheres to the surface and eventually makes its way into the slots, where it will flow freely into the drain. Debris buildup is more likely to clog this system than the mesh system, therefore.
A Snap-In Gutter Guard
Is made of rigid vinyl and is normally made of solid PVC. The gutter system’s debris is effectively thrown away by them. Gutter guards do not require any tools or fasteners for gutter installation. This simple piece of hardware connects to the gutter before snapping under the shingle.
